การสร้างวัด หรือ สร้างกุฏิที่พักพระภิกษุสงฆ์เพื่อถวายพระสงฆ์ ให้เป็นที่พำนักอาศัยที่ปฏิบัติธรรมที่ประกอบกุศลกิจอันเป็นประโยชน์ต่อผู้ทรงศีล ทรงคุณธรรมนั้นมีอานิสงส์ คือ ผลดีตอบต่อผู้ถวายอย่างยิ่งใหญ่ไพบูลย์ พระพุทธองค์ได้ทรงแสดงไว้ดังนี้
“ผู้ใดให้ที่พักอาศัย ผู้นั้นชื่อว่าให้สิ่งทั้งปวง”(สังยุตตนิกาย สคาถวรรค)
ผู้ให้ที่พักอาศัย ฯลฯ ย่อมมีบุญเจริญในกาลทุกเมื่อทั้งกลางวัน ทั้งกลางคืน เขาตั้งอยู่ในธรรม สมบูรณ์ด้วยศีล เป็นผู้ไปสวรรค์ (วนโรปสูตร)
ในวิหารทานกถา พระพุทธองค์ทรงยืนยันให้เห็นชัดเจนว่าการถวายวิหาร(วัด)ที่อยู่อาศัยแด่ภิกษุสงฆ์เป็นสมุฏฐานก่อให้เกิดประโยชน์สุข ทั้งผู้รับและผู้ถวายซึ่งทรงแสดงอานิสงส์ไว้ว่า เป็นยอดของสังฆทาน เป็นปัจจัยให้ประสบความเกษมศานต์ จนบรรลุถึงพระนิพพานเป็นที่สุด
โดยตรัสไว้ว่า“เสนาสนะที่อยู่อาศัย ย่อมบรรเทาความหนาวความร้อน ป้องกัน เนื้อร้าย ป้องกันงูและยุงได้ ป้องกันฝนก็ได้ แม้ลมแดดกล้าที่ปรากฏขึ้นก็บรรเทาได้” การถวายกุฏิวิหารที่อยู่อาศัยแก่พระสงฆ์เพื่อเร้นอยู่ ของผู้ต้องการความสงบเพื่อความสุข เพื่อฌานการเพ่ง เพื่อวิปัสสนา การเห็นแจ้ง พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ทรงสรรเสริญว่าเป็นทานอันเลิศ
The tremendous benefits of building temple
The building of temple or monk residence for shelter, dhamma practice and merit activities of the monastic order creates immeasurable benefits, as mentioned by the Lord Buddha in the passage below.
“As a person who gives accommodation, he gives everything.” (Samyuttanikaya Sagatha vagga)
The person who provides accommodation … would have prosperity in all times, both day and night. He stays in Dhamma, perfect in precepts and goes to the heaven. (Vanaropa Sutra)
In Viharadana Gatha, The Lord Buddha clearly affirmed that the offering of temple to the monastic order creates benefits for both the donators and the recipients. This is the highest form of material offering to the monastic order (Sanghadana), and is the cause of prosperity until achieving ultimate nirvana.
The Lord Buddha mentioned that “Accommodation protects from the weather, from the beasts, from snakes and from mosquitoes.” The offering of accommodation to the monks who practice meditation for the purpose of enlightenment is a supreme offering.
修建寺院 精舍 供养僧团
佛说：“随喜修建寺院或僧寮，供养德行圆满的僧团，以用于居住、修行和佛事，施主将获不可思议之功德，即：
1.施住如施一切。
2.施住者无论在白天或黑夜，时刻增长福德，安住于法，持戒清净，终趣向天界。
3.在佛经中，佛陀说供养僧团住所，必将利益施者和受者，是至上之施，是导向安乐之因，最终证入究竟涅槃。
佛陀如是说：“居住之所可避酷暑和严寒，防御猛兽、毒蛇、蚊虫和雨水。就算遭遇狂风烈日，亦可预防。”由此可见，向僧团供养居所，以方便僧团僻静、安乐、修禅、修观和证法，佛陀称赞施住为至善之施。
